You might notice that the shortcut is not the Gmail icon you usually see or you just don’t like the Gmail icon. Most people want to change that. Luckily, there is a way to customize the Gmail shortcut in the taskbar.
Step 1. Search for the Gmail icon on Google and download it to your computer directly. Not all Gmail icons will do. The icon has to be in .ico format. The resolution has to be 256*256.
